The Old Rossallians gathered in the South of England for the tour of 2022 to play our first fixture in the picturesque village of Hawkley in Hampshire.
We begin with a T20 match and having won the toss and electing to bat set a credible target of 181 for 60 in our 20 overs. Charlie and Harrison Arden opened the batting and scored 17 and 79 respectively with Matt Dryden, Luke Williams and Will Gair making solid contributions to the competitive total.
Hawkley made a great effort to chase the total down but lost wickets steadily and although a late flourish put us under pressure they finished on 165 for 5 making the game feel closer than the score reflects.
On Tuesday 2nd August we travelled to the beautiful setting at Hurstpierpoint College in Sussex.
This was a timed game commencing at 1130hrs and having won the toss, elected to bat.
The wicket was hard, fast and bouncy so conducive to high scoring and we amassed a huge total of 343 for 8 when we declared with Tom Morrison making 63, John Morrison 38, Luke Williams 56, Matt Dryden 52 and Henry Faj 20.
The opposition felt we batted too long but gave it a go to knock the runs off and finished on 298 for 8 with Jago-Lewis scoring 164, having been dropped 6 times. Had we held any of those catches we would probably have won but a draw it was.
Luke Williams to 4 wickets, Henry Faj 2 and one each for Dan Robson and Charlie Ardron.
Our final fixture was against the Old Amplefordians played at Worth School in West Sussex.
Another beautiful day and another toss won for this 40 over game and we elected to bat, scoring 209 having made the error of not using all our overs. Matt Dryden made an excellent 50, Luke Williams 21, Henry Faj 17, Dan Robson 18 all signs of getting in and out too quickly.
Sadly, our bowling was very tired and was easily picked off by the opposition for the loss of 4 wickets.
In all though another fantastic tour with 18 OR’s taking part over the 3 day tour.
Those attending were:
Howard Green, Bob Cooke, Jonty Arundel, Matt Dryden, Chris Butterworth, Charlie & Harry Ardron, Dan Robson, Luke Williams, Josh Hamnet, Chase Mills, Will Gair, John & Tom Morrison, Henry Faj, Harry Southern, Fraser Forster.
